Black and White Lord of the Rings Artwork

Lord of the Rings Fan Art

I've been working on creating a collection of Lord of the Rings fan art from the movies. I thought perhaps if I created it in black and white in the scratchboard style, it would be a different approach and might look good on dark clothing.

Black shirts are pretty popular color to wear these days. Black can be seen as a timeless classic color to wear. These illustrations are created by looking at the characters faces in photos. You can create similar work by drawing images from the movie. 

The images I have chosen are more Rembrandt in style. The black and white helps the characters features to pop out. My favorite one is Gandalf the Grey. I do hope to create all the characters in the cast. Perhaps some of the celebrities will be able to see these images. You can right click and download them or take a screen shot of these for your computer.

When Marnie Was There

I recently watched Studio Ghibli last film " When Marnie Was There". It's a sad yet compelling story about a young girl and how she learns to deal with her tragic past. 

As a fan of the artwork of Studio Ghibli, I created this digital painting. 

Painting in photoshop

I started painting in photoshop. It can be a challenge to figure out which brushes work best for each part. It's been a long time since I had the option to paint in the computer. I looked at a still from the movie and sketched it out and painted it in. Playing with the dream like quality painting can have with an image. 

Learning to paint in Photoshop

I want to get really great at painting in photoshop. I like painting in the real world with real canvas and paint but the cost is far to much. It would be more affordable to paint in the digital world. I gave it a try last night. Part of being an artist is discovering your style. It can be a difficult thing to look for. Other's find it right away. I am looking for mine.
